My Fanboy Tribute Page
I'd been debating whether or not to create some
cheezy fan page, but I could never decide for whom I should do
it. Plus there's always someone doing it better. But, one Sunday
I scanned a bunch of neat junk I've collected over the years,
and I thought I might as well make a page for it all.

Steve Vai and Joe Satriani These
guys are pretty much the reason I'm the hopeless loser I am
today. But rather than attempt to shamelessly cop their styles
as many do, I garnered from these gentlemen the desire to be
unique and original, as well as to wank till the cows come home.
The origin of these autographs and the following two pictures
is the Memphis G3 show back in '97. The lovely and talented
Rich Pike
got me aftershow passes. Needless to say, I'll give Rich my
firstborn child or pretty much the monkey of his choice as payback.
| Me and Joe Satriani
I promised myself I wouldn't post any pictures of me looking
like a total spaz, but I caved. What can I say, it was an
amazing experience to meet the guys who shaped a disproportionately
large part of my life. I manage to have the same doofus grin
in both pictures. Unfortunately Steve Vai ducked out before
I got the chance to take a picture with him, although I did
shake his hand and say thanks for screwing up my life. |

| Me and Mike Keneally
Mike
is a firehose of creative energy. Whether he is expressing
himself with sounds, words or pictures, he presents his unique
perspective to the world through every gland of his being
(or something). Tragically, he's always been second banana
to guitar heroes - Vai, Dweezil Zappa, Marc Bonilla, etc.
But in the last several years, he's finally showing the world
that he is definitely his own banana. |

| Eric Johnson's set
list Unfortunately, the '97 G3 was without Eric
Johnson. But July 20, 2000, I had the opportunity to witness
the great one up close at Smitty's Bar and Grille in Little
Rock. I got there two hours early and sat right between his
monitors. He's a shy guy, so no autographs after the show
and the man never drops his pick, so I had to abscond with
his set list. The show was easily my guitar highlight of 2000.
I can't wait to hear this band Alien Love Child's live CD
in October. Interesting name - now he'll have to go back on
tour with Satriani and Vai and call it the Alien tour because
they've all used it in album titles - Surfing with the Alien,
Alien Love Secrets and Alien Love Child. These guys really
are from outer space! |

| An assortment of live
show mementos I like souvenirs from club shows.
At top is the bottom half of G. Love and Special Sauce's
hand-scribbled set list (I had to split the list in half with
another guy). Then, Bela Fleck's autograph below that at
left. At right, I threw in Pete Slosberg's (of
Pete's
Wicked Ales) autograph which I got when he came to plug
his beer seminar at the radio station where I used to work.
It says, "Colter - the wickedest guy in radio!"
Lower left is the Flecktones Future Man and Victor
Wooten. At lower right is George Lynch and Michael
Hedges above that. |

| Picks! Only one of these
was attained through a live show - John Flansburgh. Not the
type of guy to have personalized picks ("there's no money
above the fifth fret!"), so you'll just have to trust
me that it's actually his. Paul, Richie and Steve I got through
the mail, and Blues I got through a radio promo copy of "Hairpick."
I should note that Paul's says "Jurassic Pick" on
one side and has a Paul-drawn velociraptor on the other. Also,
the green Vai pick is the Morley Bad Horsie Wah pick and the
"Greasy Kid's Stuff" pick is one of many thrown
at me by the deft and generous Rich
Pike. |
